About the Artist

Mongolian artist Tumenjargal Zayat combines nomadic art with contemporary mediums and practices, including painting, installation, performance, and sculpture. He teaches art at the Mongolian Academy of Fine Arts, the School of Art and Design, and Mongolian National University of Art and Culture.

The focus of his artwork is on the relationship between his nomadic philosophy and lifestyle, which he calls mongolism. It encompasses history, spirituality, socio-ecological, and concepts of nomadic culture.

While urban centers and settlements no longer fascinate, an ongoing sense of exploration and curiosity is in motion. In my studio, I create art that reflects modern identities and directions through intellectual transformation, development, spatial relationships, and interconnectedness.

Creation is characterized by adaptation, integration, and unification, which can be wondrous and enigmatic. As they transition from one point to another, cultural evolution and transition challenge singular forms or expressions. Through inquiry and discovery, the exploration is defined by the essence and values of each point as the distances and interrelations between points unfold. This journey is a part of an endless, undefined expanse that stretches forward into an open, boundless future.

Silky and milky white wool transmigrates into the light clouds.

May your birth color merge with the pace of the mountain.

Leading the herds of the eternal blue kingdoms,

May you be born as a divine sign of pure essence, you foal.

Under the guidance of the starry and profound intuition,

By conquering and defeating the darkness

May your path of light be eternal.
